It's possible!
A hospital that offers first-class medicine. As beautiful, hospitable and comfortable as a star hotel. A hospital where patients from all health insurance companies are welcomed as guests and where the people who work there are given back their vocation and the joy of their work. Years ago, this was (my) vision. Now it is reality. At the Waldkliniken Eisenberg.
It's possible is to put people back at the center of medicine and to build and operate a hospital that is "patient-centered" despite all economic considerations.
It's possible to reorganize care and giving employees back a sense of purpose in their work.
It's possible involving doctors, nursing staff, administration, kitchen and cleaning staff in the planning of a new hospital and realizing a shared vision of a healthy hospital.
It's possible making a hospital healthy. Beautiful and hospitable like a hotel. And it's about making our sick healthcare system healthy.
And it's also possible writing black figures and running a municipal hospital profitably. We have succeeded in doing this consistently since 2009 and have reinvested all profits in the development of our clinics. We have always thought of our patients and employees first and only then of equipment and technology - just as our claim is: People are the focus! That's how it works...

For a better healthcare system
- These 1: We need a complete system change.
The healthcare system must be radically simplified. This can only be achieved through an entirely new system, not through corrections.
- These 2: Our healthcare personnel are valuable.
So we should treat them accordingly and consistently introduce new ways of working. A better hospital is not only a better place to recover. It is also a better place to work.
- These 3: The strength of nursing lies in its consolidation.
Politics needs a feasible concept. This can only be achieved with a unified professional attitude.
- These 4: Quality of life instead of profit orientation.
We should act as preventively as possible instead of curatively. Efficiency should reflect in health outcomes. This gives meaning back to healthcare personnel. No money outflow from the solidarity system into private pockets, but rather a return to the system.
- These 5: Twice the health outcomes at 50 percent of the costs.
From being a low-cost provider to being a fairly paying quality provider: Avoiding 30 percent of operations, saving costs, and increasing health.

Heime & Spitäler: The gold standard for new hospital buildings'
Heime & Spitäler: The gold standard for new hospital buildings'
Germany's best hospital, the municipal Waldkliniken Eisenberg in Thuringia, is opening a new building at the end of October that is likely to be unique in the German hospital landscape. Ten years of thought went into the construction and the new organization. The aim was to make everything better. The result: the architecture and design of a world-famous architect are combined with the quality of stay of a star hotel and new care and admission concepts. The new building cost no more than a new hospital building of a comparable size.

There are no patients in this hospital, only guests. Instead of a canteen, there is a restaurant and patients are admitted via a check-in. A super modern hospital that looks like a hotel. "Galileo" took a look at the Waldklinik in Thuringia.

Book - New Work in Medicine
How we can achieve utopia! The first non-fiction book on New Work in medicine not only highlights the shortcomings of the German "thoroughly economized" healthcare system, but also presents the first concrete New Work model for healthcare and the necessary paradigm shift in our healthcare policy. Reducing hierarchies, working in multi-professional teams, participation and strengthening the medical and nursing professions for a salutogenetic design of our healthcare system, to name just a few of the cornerstones of the book.

The film Vier Sterne Plus ends with the opening of the new Waldkliniken Eisenberg building, shortly before the 2020 general election. In the meantime, it has become clear: "What we came up with in a participatory way with many employees really works!" says David-Ruben Thies. He talks about what else has happened during this time in the film discussion.
